Basic Structure of the Rig

  • Tackle: A 2500–3000 size spinning reel and an 8‑foot wind‑fishing rod are recommended. Eging rods can also be used.
  • Line and Leader: Use PE line (0.8–1号) — PE is essential for producing sharp darting action. Attach 50cm–1m of fluorocarbon leader (4–8号 / around 20lb).
  • Lure (Jighead & Worm): Use a specialized jighead (7–30g) with a triangular or otherwise unique cross‑section, paired with a dedicated wind‑fishing worm.
  • Gear for Cutlassfish (Tachiuo): When targeting cutlassfish, use a wire leader to prevent bite‑offs and add an assist hook to improve hook‑up rates. Since cutlassfish often strike upward from below, the assist hook should be attached facing downward.

Fishing Procedure

  1. Check the Setup: Make sure the worm is rigged perfectly straight. If it’s bent, it won’t dart properly.
  2. Casting and Countdown: After casting, count seconds to let the lure sink to the desired depth. Start by taking bottom contact.
  3. Wind Action:
Using Line Slack — After snapping the rod upward, intentionally create line slack. This slack allows the lure to dart widely left and right.
Reeling Rhythm — For each rod snap, turn the reel handle once. Imagine pedaling a bicycle: handle up when lowering the rod, handle down when lifting the rod.
  4. Working the Range: If there’s no response, change the countdown time to explore all layers from surface to bottom.
  5. Bite and Hook‑set: Fish often strike during the brief pause or fall between darts. You’ll feel weight at the moment of the next rod snap—continue reeling and set the hook firmly.
