Basic Structure of the Rig

• Lure (Sinking Pencil): A lipless, high‑density, slim lure that offers exceptional casting distance and a natural wobbling action. It can cover a wide area from surface to bottom at both slow and fast speeds, making it highly versatile.
• Rod: Long rods around 10–11 feet are standard. Medium (M) to Medium‑Heavy (MH) power rods are ideal, providing long‑distance casting with minimal effort while maintaining both sensitivity and strength. Dedicated surf rods or seabass rods are recommended.
• Reel & Main Line: Use a 4000–5000 size spinning reel with PE line from 0.8–1.5号.
• Leader: Connect about 1.5m of fluorocarbon leader to the main line using a strong knot such as the FG knot, and attach a snap for easy lure changes.
• Safety Gear (Essential): Because surf fishing involves sudden waves, wearing a life jacket, waders, hat, and polarized sunglasses is strongly recommended.

Fishing Procedure

1. Casting and Bottom Contact: Cast toward tide lines, rip currents, or break lines. On sandy bottoms, let the lure touch the bottom before retrieving. If rocks are present, start reeling immediately after splashdown to avoid snags.
2. Adjusting the Range (Depth): If there’s no response, rotate lures to change the depth you’re exploring. Control the range not only with retrieve speed but also by adjusting the rod angle—this helps avoid snags while keeping the lure in the strike zone.
3. Action (Luring):
   Steady Retrieve — Slowly reel at a constant speed; the natural action of the sinking pencil will attract fish.
   Stop & Go — Reel several turns, then pause to let the lure fall, creating a feeding opportunity.
   Lift & Fall — Raise the rod tip to lift the lure, then let it sink again, repeating the motion.
4. Bite and Landing: Bites often occur during the fall or at the start of the retrieve. When landing the fish near the surf line, time your landing with the waves to avoid losing the fish.
