Basic Structure of the Rig

  • Rod: A light‑game rod or eging rod around 7'8" to 8'0" is recommended for long‑distance casting and strong hook‑setting performance at range.
  • Line: Use PE line around 0.4号 as the main line, connected to a firm fluorocarbon leader around 1.2号.
  • Rig Layout: Tie a sinker to the end of the leader, and place the hook 20–30cm above it.
  • Hook and Leader Branch: For ajing, it is recommended to use a 20cm branch leader (edas) to improve suction and hook‑up rates. Use a lightweight jighead around 0.2–0.6g.
  • Sinker: Choose a teardrop sinker or dedicated weight between 3.5g and 15g (about 4号), depending on depth, current, and wind.

Fishing Procedure

  1. Casting and Bottom Contact: Because the sinker descends first, you can reach the bottom quickly and efficiently.
  2. Action (Luring):
Shake & Retrieve: Shake the rod tip lightly while slowly reeling to pull the lure horizontally—effective when horse mackerel are chasing small baitfish.
Lift & Fall: Lift the rig gently, then let it fall back to the bottom, repeating the motion.
  3. Feeding Pause: Create pauses by stopping the shaking and letting the lure drift with the current, or by leaving the sinker on the bottom while giving slack—these pauses trigger bites.
  4. Bite and Hook‑set: Since only the hook section moves while the sinker stays on the bottom, detect subtle weight changes or faint bites from the fish’s suction and set the hook firmly.
