Basic Structure of the Rig

  • Tackle: A 4–5m surf rod rated 3–4号 or a shore‑jigging rod is suitable. Use a 3000–5000 size spinning reel spooled with 6–8号 nylon or PE line of 2号 or heavier.
  • Main Line and Weight: Attach a heavy sinker (15–30号 or more) to the end of the main line (6–8号 nylon) using a snap swivel.
  • Leader (Branch Line) Section: Consists of a snap swivel that clips onto the main line, a leader (around 5–8号), and a hook.
  • Additional Components: To help the bait slide smoothly down the main line, stopper beads or rolling swivels may be added.

Fishing Procedure

  1. Casting the Weight: First cast only the sinker—without hooks or bait—toward the target area.
  2. Tightening the Line: Once the sinker reaches the bottom, tighten the main line and place the rod on a rod holder.
  3. Hooking the Bait: Attach live bait such as horse mackerel using nose‑hooking or back‑hooking.
  4. Sending the Rig Down: Clip the snap at the end of the leader onto the tightened main line and release the bait into the water. The bait will slide down along the main line like an elevator.
  5. Waiting: Loosen the drag and wait for a bite. When a fish takes the bait and pulls line, allow it to fully commit before setting the hook.
