Surf Castingキスカレイ

Basic Structure of the Rig
- Reel and Rod: Use a long‑distance casting reel and a surf‑casting rod around 4 meters capable of casting a 25–30号 tenbin (balance arm).
- Main Line and Shock Leader: Use highly sensitive PE line (around 0.6–0.8号) and connect a tapered shock leader to prevent line breakage during casting.
- Tenbin and Weight: Use a semi‑sliding tenbin when prioritizing bite detection, or an L‑shaped tenbin when you want more automatic hook‑setting performance.
- Hooks (Rig): Use commercially available 3–5 hook rigs, or cut the required number of hooks from a homemade “infinite rig” consisting of 50–80 hooks.
Fishing Procedure
- Preparing and Hooking the Bait: Use sandworms (ishigokai/jarime). Dust them lightly with “stone powder” (perlite, etc.) to improve grip and make baiting easier.
- Casting: Set the drop length to about halfway between the butt guide and the rod joint. Keep your chest open and cast upward in a smooth parabolic motion.
- Searching (Dragging & Sabiki‑style): Once the weight hits the bottom, slowly drag the rig to attract whiting.
- Rod‑dragging method: Move the rod slowly to pull the rig, then reel in the slack. This makes it easy to track how far you’ve moved the rig.
- Reel‑dragging method: Keep the rod fixed and reel at a steady pace—about one handle turn every 2–3 seconds.
- Follow‑up Bites & Multi‑Hooking: When you feel the first bite, don’t reel in immediately. Continue dragging slowly to attract more fish and aim for multiple hookups.
- Landing and Unhooking: If there are waves, retrieve the fish in sync with the incoming wave. If the hook is swallowed, pinch the gill area firmly with your thumb and index finger to make removal easier.
