Basic Structure of the Rig
- Rod and Reel: Use a powerful rod (such as a dedicated 3–4m rod or a shore‑jigging rod) paired with a large spinning reel.
- Line (Main Line & Leader): Connect PE line (around 2号 or thicker) to a heavy fluorocarbon leader (8号 or more).
- Sinker (Weight): The inline sinker type allows the fish to take the bait without feeling resistance. In rocky areas with frequent snags, use a breakaway sinker setup with a weak snap so only the sinker detaches, improving your chances of retrieving the fish and the rig.
- Hook: Choose large, thick‑shaft hooks such as Maru‑Seigo, Chinu hooks, or Ise‑Nii, sized around 14–18 depending on bait size and target species.
Fishing Procedure
- Baiting: Use bait suited to the target species, such as fish strips, ragworms, sardine fillets, or dough bait.
- Casting and Waiting: Cast the rig and wait for the sinker to reach the bottom. Place the rod securely on a rod holder such as a spike or tripod, and always attach a safety rope to prevent large fish from pulling the entire rod into the water.
- Detecting Bites: Watch the brightly colored rod tip (often painted orange for visibility) and wait for it to shake as the fish takes the bait.
- Hook‑set and Fight: When a clear bite occurs, lift the rod to set the hook and enjoy the powerful fight using the rod’s strength.
